Benefits of Organic Waste Recycling

Why composting organic waste matters

Reduced Greenhouse Gases

Organic waste in landfills produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Composting prevents these emissions.

Creates Valuable Compost

Your waste becomes nutrient-rich compost that improves soil health and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers.

Reduces Landfill Usage

Organic materials make up a significant portion of landfill waste. Diverting them extends landfill lifespans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our organic waste collection service

Can I put meat and dairy in my organic waste bin?

Small amounts of meat scraps and dairy products are acceptable in our organic waste bins. However, large quantities can cause odor issues and attract pests. We recommend wrapping meat scraps in newspaper or compostable bags before disposal.

How can I prevent odors from my organic waste bin?

To minimize odors, you can layer food waste with dry materials like shredded paper or dried leaves. Keeping your bin in a shaded area and cleaning it regularly also helps. For commercial customers, we offer bin cleaning services as an add-on.

What happens to the organic waste after collection?

After collection, your organic waste is transported to our composting facility where it undergoes a controlled decomposition process. The resulting compost is used in agriculture, landscaping, and community gardens, completing the circular economy.

Can I use plastic bags in my organic waste bin?

No, regular plastic bags cannot be composted and contaminate the organic waste. Please use compostable bags that meet Australian standards (AS4736) or paper bags. You can also wrap food waste in newspaper or simply place it directly in the bin.

How much does organic waste collection cost in Adelaide?

Our organic waste collection prices start from $21.60 for a 240L bin with weekly collection. For accurate pricing based on your specific requirements, please use our online calculator or contact our team.
